CAN Bus is a widely used multiplex wiring system that has been adopted by most vehicle manufacturers. Other multiplex systemsdo exist such as VAN and J1850 but these are not compatible with CAN Bus. Some newer vehicles have the CAN Bus wires available on the OBD-II diagnostic connector. However, the majority of vehicle makes do not make the CAN bus wiring available on this connector. In these cases, it will be necessary to hard-wire the CAN interface to the vehicle CAN Bus. If in any doubt about fitting pleaserefer to a qualified vehicle electrician for advice.
