I. Introduction
In this monograph I will show how Mandelaused the Rugby World Cup (1995) to unify and pacify South Africa. But first I will introduce Mandela and South Africa situation before the Rugby World Cup hosted by South Africa in 1995.
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, born 18 July 1918, served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999, and was the first South African president to be elected in a fully representative democratic election. Beforehis presidency, Mandela was an anti-apartheid activist, and the leader of the armed wing of the African National Congress (ANC). In 1962 he was arrested and convicted of sabotage and other charges, and sentenced to life in prison. Mandela served 27 years in prison, spending many of these years on Robben Island. Following his release from prison on 11 February 1990, Mandela led his party in thenegotiations that led to multi-racial democracy in 1994. As president from 1994 to 1999, he frequently gave priority to reconciliation, while introducing policies aimed at combating poverty and inequality in South Africa. In South Africa, Mandela is often known as Madiba, or as tata . Mandela has received more than 250 awards over four decades, including the 1993 Nobel Peace Prize.
Jacobus FrancoisPienaar (born 2 January 1967) is a former rugby player who captained and played flanker for the South African Springboks national rugby union team from 26 June 1993 until 10 August 1996. He won 29 Test caps (all of them as captain) and led the Springboks to victory in the 1995 Rugby World Cup.
A born leader, he was appointed captain for his first international appearance and he maintained thisrole in all of the 29 games played for his country. With Pienaar at the helm, the Springboks enjoyed 15 successive Test victories between 1994 - 1995, and he is widely recognised as one of the most inspirational captains in the history of the game. During 1995, he was awarded Rugby Personality of the Year in Britain, whilst South Africa named him Newsmaker of the Year. Nine years later, his homecountry would also vote him 50th in a poll naming the top 100 South Africans.

II. Body

1. South Africa situation before 1995

Apartheid was a system of legal racial segregation enforced by the National Party government of South Africa between 1948 and 1994, under which the rights of the majority 'non-white' inhabitants of South Africa were curtailed and minority rule by the whiteswas maintained. Since 1994 everything changed with the arrival of Nelson Mandela to power.

South Africa since 1994 transitioned from the system of apartheid to one of majority rule. The election of 1994 resulted in a change in government with the African National Congress (ANC) coming to power. The ANC returned to power in the subsequent elections in 1999, 2004 and 2009. Following theelection of 27 April 1994, Mandela was sworn in as South Africa's president. The Government of National Unity was established. The government introduced several programs to solve economic, social and politic problems. They also introduced a new constitution. But the most important action took place in the Ellis Park (Johannesburg) when Nelson Mandela wore a Springbok rugby jersey to present the WilliamWebb Ellis Cup to South African captain Francois Pienaar, a symbolic image of reconciliation between the races.

2. RWC 1995

The third World Cup was for many more emotional than either of the first two. It officially proclaimed the return of South Africa to the world rugby stage, and was held in South Africa. Australia were favorites to win after 12 months of unbeaten test rugby. However,...
