Marijuana: Should It Be Legalized or Not?

Since long time ago, marijuana has been pointed as a prejudicial drug. Even though, most of the information supporting this view is based on lies and disinformation; because “many claims ofmarijuana's danger are based on old 20th century prejudices that originated in a time when science was uncertain how marijuana produced its characteristic effects” (AlterNet, 2007, para, 5). Furthermore, instead of producing something negative in the body, marijuana provokes a relax sensation and satisfaction in the corps. These effects do not last too much in the body and benefit the brain and someorgans; even though, many individuals do not see these beneficial effects. Marijuana must be legalized because it has medical benefits and it will decreased gang members; though, some people think that it will encourage violence in poor streets.
If marijuana is legalized for medical purposes, it will reduce the amount of cells that produce Alzheimer and brain cancer. The benefits of marijuana in thefield of medicine has increased through the time and checked that marijuana is not dangerous as mass media has told. A breakthrough in this field is that scientist has found that marijuana reduces cells that generate Alzheimer. The substance that made this possible is called “Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)” (Harder, and Reitbrock, 1997, np). This active ingredient in marijuana “prevents an enzymecalled acetylcholinesterase from accelerating the formation of "Alzheimer plaques" in the brain more effectively than commercially marketed drugs.” (Eubanks et al, 2006, para, 1) Another advantage of consuming cannabis is that, it prevents people to have brain cancer. Salazar et al (2009) stated that “the research team discovered that cannabinoids such as THC had anticancer effects in mice withhuman brain cancer cells and in people with brain tumors” (para,1). That means that THC fights against the main cells which activate brain cancer in mice and brain tumors in humans. These investigations open the possibility of life for many individuals around the globe that do not want to undergo a dangerous surgery. They see these medical advances as a light at the end of the road.
Marijuanalegalization will reduce fights among gang members and decrease people that were caught only for carrying marijuana. The gang members in Mexico and United States control its marijuana production from the police with their lives no matter if they have to die in the struggle. The only thing that they really care about is the money that marijuana produces. Sadly, the government softens the problem...
