2) Market Behavior and scenario
• Given its limited production, Chile imports in order to meet its growing health market. In 2007, it imported in the region of US$ 270 million worth of equipment, materials and disposable medical instruments and today is still a net importer.
• Chile produces and exports a limited amount of medicaldisposable products particularly some surgical and examination gloves, suction units, urinal bags from a local company called Madegom, but in very small scale.
• The Government is giving strong priority in improving the standard of the national public health. For this purpose, there are some projects and tenders being rolled out for public hospitals throughout Chile. Spending by the Government inthis sector has been increasing since 1990 and so far, reaching the public budget of US$ 4.7 billion in 2008. Thus, 59% of the investment will go to the hospital network, 31% to primary health care, which includes the completion of construction and equipping 30 clinics and begin construction of another 31 and the 10% remaining investment will be for equipping hospital high and medium complexity,...
