Método Billings: aspectos bioéticos

RESUMEN
Este trabajo tuvo el objetivo de analizar aspectos bioéticos del Método Billings, basado en una encuesta aplicada a
38 parejas de novios próximos a contraer matrimonio católico. Las edades de los novios oscilaron entre 19 y 47 años
de edad. Analizando el principio de autonomía, la mayoría de los novios (82,89%) expresaronno sentirse obligados
a usar el Método Billings por sus convicciones religiosas. Respecto al principio de beneficencia, expresaron que el
Método favorece a ambos (93,42%) y los beneficios más votados fueron planificar el embarazo (47,37%) y diálogo
entre esposos (40,79%). Con relación al principio de No Maleficencia, los novios (94,74%) afirmaron que el método
no afecta la salud física, a pesarde haber una continencia sexual periódica (84,21%). Desde la Bioética Personalista,
evaluando el principio de defensa de la vida, el 94,74% de los novios expresaron que el Método Billings no afecta la
vida de las personas ni su dignidad. Analizando la Libertad y Responsabilidad, manifestaron que el uso del
Método es responsabilidad de ambos (90,79%) y lo cambiarían por otro método natural, sieste no les ayudaba
(85,53%). Para el principio de Totalidad, anotaron que el Método Billings es mejor que otro contrario a la
naturalidad del acto conyugal (71,05%) para espaciar nacimientos de manera efectiva. El Método Billings, como
herramienta de regulación natural de la fertilidad, permite a sus usuarios un mayor conocimiento de sí mismos y de
su trascendencia. Los novios encuestadostienen alto grado de valoración del Método Billings, por sus beneficios:
planificar los embarazos y promover el diálogo entre los esposos. La sencillez del método permite socializarlo y
enseñarlo a cualquier interesado.

ABSTRACT
The objective of this investigation was to analyze bioethical aspects of the Billings method, basedon a survey of 38
wedding couples upcoming to enter into catholic marriage. The ages of the couples vary between 19 and 47 years
old (SD 7,08). Analyzing the principle of Autonomy, most of boyfriends (82,89%) expressed feel not compelled to use
the Billings Method for their religious beliefs. Regarding the principle of Beneficence, they expressed that the
Method benefits both (93,42%). Toprated benefits of method were “planning pregnancy” (47,37%) and “dialogue
between spouses” (40,79%). With regard to the principle of No maleficence, couples (94.74%) stated that the method
does not affect physical health, despite regular sexual continence. From the point of view of Bioethics Personalist,
assessing the principle of defense of life, the couples expressed that Billings Method doesnot affect people's lives
and their dignity (94,74%). Analyzing the principle of Freedom and Responsibility, they stated that the use of the
method is the responsibility of both (90,79%) and change it for another natural method if this did not help them
(85,53%). Concerning to the principle of Totality, they noted that Billings Method is better than any method that
overrides the naturalness ofthe conjugal act (71,05%), especially for spacing births effectively. The Billings method
as a tool for natural regulation of fertility, allows people who use it, greater understanding of themselves and their
significance. Grooms surveyed showed high valuations of natural methods, especially the Billings Method, whose
benefits rated, were: Planning pregnancies and Promote dialogue between thespouses; they agree that the
simplicity of the method can socialize and teach it to anyone interested.
