The principal reason of their disappearance was considered the main enemy of livestock and other human practices.He has been pursued mainly through illegal hunting and poisoning campaigns.
Principal threats are: Underground extermination because of the risks they pose to livestock, decrease oftheir food and degradation of their habitat.
Hunting and overgrazing decimated the population of natural prey and forced to hunt livestock. Human persecution, habitat destruction, hunting and capturefor zoos immoderate.
The Mexican Wolf was placed in imminent danger of extinction.

In the 2000 nature reserve Have Reported 200 Mexican Wolf in captivity, 48 in Mexico and155 in the United States, Their Are product of an international program for the recovery of the species. Wolves face a controversial position to release them into their historic habitat.
Currently,the WWF's Chihuahua Desert Program supports a project to study the genetic diversity of the Mexican gray wolf populations exist in Mexico, in order to achieve a genetic and reproductive management forthe conservation of this species.
