Imagine a third world country like Mexico who has a lot of people and also starts building agreements with other countries, it receives a huge profit in producing goods, services or trades for its people or for those countries; an industrial engineer has a huge scope for reducing the costs of production and sustainable free market for improving Mexico.Industrial engineering is focused on the creation, administration and redesign of systems; this means that it focuses on the supply chain which is the creation and the delivery of products or services. In other words, an industrial engineer optimizes and improves the supply chain so that it has better quality using fewer resources, and in less time. Mexico can progress by optimizing three bigareas; these are the manufacturing sector, international exports and imports, and the optimization of the public hospitals. This essay will show how industrial engineers can help Mexico by implementing the knowledge they have, optimizing the three areas mentioned before, to make Mexican products and services more competitive and making Mexico a sustainable country.
Nowadays, the manufacturingsector is very important worldwide because is the sector responsible for the creation of every goods or product made for consumption. “About 60% of products for the manufacturing, petrochemical, mining and agribusiness account for 62% of total Mexican exports, which in 2010 amounted to U.S. $ 298.138 million (MDD), according to the Secretariat of Economy” (Rodríguez , 2011). Mexico is veryimportant in this international chain because we make a lot of products, going from cellphones and televisions to generators and transformers, which go to different countries. Mexico exports a lot of its products abroad and acquires much of its profit from these sales, “actually the Mexican exportations to the European Union amounted 12,764 million dollars from January to July 2012” (Morales, 2011). Inthe process of creating a product we need to save time, money, materials and last but not least the product has to have quality; for that we need an optimized supply chain and here is where the industrial engineer is needed. To optimize a supply chain a number of tools and processes are needed for ensuring the optimal operation of manufacturing a product. Optimizing this sector can help Mexicansupply chain by reducing manufacturing costs, we can create more products in less time, make better quality products using fewer materials; all the above points will help the Mexican supply chain be more efficient.
