My Dad and I
I was too young and immature, but I still remember that day like it happened yesterday. My fatheralways has been a person with strong character and strict; he always says to us that we'd have to learn to stand on our same. My father and I have always a different way of seeing things and we neverget along.
I was 14 years and beginning high school, my mother was hospitalized for surgery on the stomach; by that time I didn’t know what she had. She has always been a very strong woman sheused to work in two jobs. I think because of the surgery, she had to give then up. My father spent a lot of nights at the hospital, he came back home only to take a shower and go to work.
Iremember that my father always had very heavy jobs he used to get up every day before the sun rise and he got prepare to go to work, sometimes in a bad mood; there were days that I did not see him athome until the sun had already gone. When he comes home my mother used to say to us with that fearful voice “kids here comes your father better not be making noise he might comes annoying”. He usuallycomes with a bottle of tequila in his hands saying aloud that, thanks god my day is over, talking about his job. We shouldn’t ask what that he means by that because we didn’t know what would be theanswer.
At dinner, Mom would make most of the conversation. He generally reserved his participation for when we kids got too lighthearted or proud or disrespectful or something and neededtrampling.
One day I remember that my father told me that I have to learn how to drive, he said that because what happened if my mother got sick? And I have to go take care. I knew that it would betough but I have to do it. All started when he took the key and put them in my hands, and he said “today is your day and you’ll have to learn how to drive”.
