Murals Of Aguascalientes City

1. The murals located on the walls surrounding the central patio of the Aguascalientes State Government Palace.
These murals are located in the south part of Patria Square, is the only civil edification of the XVII Century that still remains.
This complex used to be rich mansion and has a beautiful façade of red “tezontle”, balconies and blazons in pink quarry stone. Inside one hundred andeleven semicircular arches create a beautiful complex in it two patios adorned with beautiful murals, work of art of the Chilean master Oswald Barra Cunningham that tells part of the history of the city.

• Mural number one “Aguascalientes in History”


The name of the artist who created the artwork is Oswaldo Barra Cuninngham, this is a mural named “Aguascalientes en la Historia” It wascreated from 1961 to 1992. Some other major events in history that occurred at the same time this artwork was created like the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, Mexico. Only ten days before the 1968 Olympic Games were to open, the Mexican army surrounded a group of students who were  
protesting against the Mexican government at the Plaza of Three Cultures and opened fire into the crowd. It isestimated that 267 were killed and over 1,000 were wounded.

When I sawthe mural the first time, I looked the fire, because for me it is the principal attraction that called my attention.
The colors I see are:
• red
• black
• yellow
• brown
• white
• blue
• gray
• green

In these murals I see different types of shapes like circles, squares, triangles, and the edges are strong and some of them are more lighten, this moral doesn’t have lines and thetextures I can notice are rough textures in the corns, softly textures in their clothes, bumpy textures in the mountains landscape, and the women’s in the center have silky textures in their hairs.

The clothes of the people have a cotton texture. The clouds have a softly texture. The papers show a rough texture. I think that the time that is trying to show is at night, like 8 pm because thepainting shows red colors surrounding the paint. Also the fire is more attractive at night.
The overall visual effect or mood of the work is: Fear, Freedom, Fight, War Suffering, Injustice, Jealousy, Power and Courage.
II. Analyze
The artist uses the colors very intensity to express what is happening in the work of art. These colors help the artwork to be more attractive and make stronger emotions forthe people that appreciate the work of art. He use regular shapes because he wants to show real shapes of the people and things in the scene, and he also highlights this shapes whit the natural color so he create a natural scene of the work of art. The lines are used in a minimum part of the work, for the artist is more important the people than the lines, the important part of the work of artare the elements that complement the scene. Also the texture plays an important part in the work of art, there are no illusions in this part because the artist create every texture very real and natural.

The lights are used in a natural way of the scenes, the shadows also reflect real elements, and every light is used as real as is show because there are no illusions in the work of art. I thinkthe artist achieve her objective by expressing feelings that can be translate for the colors that are used in the scene, the people that appear in the scene also project their feelings, he also achieve this focus because of the texture and the clothes type that are used by the people appearing in the scene, he also focus this cultural work of art by the cultural elements.
