My Antonia
Book review
The book begins with the conversation between two adult friends that are remembering old, good childhood times. Jim Burden is a very sensible and intelligent man, whotells the story of his romance with a very beautiful immigrant called Antonia, and how their love lasts after growing up and continuing with their lives in separate ways.
The story takes time inis told by the main character and it begins with his moving to Nebrazka to live with his grandparents after his parent´s death. In this trip he first met the Shimerdas family and their daughterAntonia, a very beautiful immigrant girl, a little older than him. This family ends up being neighbors with Jim’s new home and quickly Jim and Antonia became good friends. After many emotivesituations over the time they fell in love with each other.
Circumstances of life lead them to separate ways, but never forgetting that sincerity that childhood love has.
This book show howinnocence, genuineness and sincerity of two children is the base of a true love that lasts forever no matter the circumstances of live of how many times they fall in love again. And as the title isreferring to, the book also reflects the natural sense of protection from part of the men when true love is found.
Before reading it I didn’t know what to expect about the book, I thought it was justanother another romantic book, one of that stories that becomes a romantic comedy movie at Hollywood. But while I was reading it I realized that it was not that kind of book. The story is toldby a man, not by a woman, moreover the man share his feelings with the reader, and that kind of feelings aren´t usually shared by men. All this is totally different than what I expected of thebook.
If you are a person who believes in love and you would like to live it from the characters with the intensity they feel, so you decide to read this book. Then prepare to be surprised.
