Observation Report

OBSERVATION REPORT

This observation report was conducted on April 27th, 2012 in a school called “institución Educativa Huellitas” at 12:30 pm. The students were in 8th grade; there were 31 basicEnglish learners, all of them were girls. The teacher presented two activities during the class which were: correcting mistakes, and singing. The aim of the class was not clear since the activitiespresented by the teacher were not related between them; there was not a topic to be developed. This observation report focuses on the classroom context and the activities performed in class by bothteacher and students.

The following is a complete description of the classroom where the class observation was conducted. The class was presented in a small and bright place; there were some posterspasted on the walls; there was a corner called “Rincón del Aseo” there was a broom , and a mop. The students were organized in lines, and the teacher was always in front of them. Every girl had her owndesk; the desks were made of wood, and they were brown . As the room was very small there was not enough space between every girl’s desk.

During the class, correcting mistakes, and singingactivities were carried out. First of all, the teacher started the class by provinding the students with some written papers, made by students from other grades, in order for the students to correct them.T: “Les voy a entregar unos trabajos que las niñas de séptimo hicieron sobre la poor old lady, para que los miren y corrijan las palabras que estan mal escritas, pueden usar diccionario”.
S1:“Profe yo no traje diccionario, usted no avisó”.
S2: “Profe yo no entiendo nada”.
In the last activity, the teacher used a stereo to play a song. When the song finished, she asked the students to singthe song together; then, she asked two girls to pass in front of the rest of the class to sing the song.

T: “Niñas vengan al frente porfavor y cantan la canción”.
S1: “No teacher que pena”...
