1.Grammatical construction of Passive Voice

The structure of Passive voice is : Subject + finite form of to be + Past Participle

Procedure of passive contruction
Sentences experiment different changes when they are turned from active to passive voice:
1. the object of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence
2. the finite form ofthe verb is changed (to be + past participle)
3. the subject of the active sentence becomes the object of the passive sentence (or is dropped)

We must note that this procedure can just be done if the verb is transitive, otherwise the procedure is impossible.

Other types of passive sentences:

• Passive sentence with two objects
Rewriting an active sentence with two objects in passive voicemeans that one of the two objects becomes the subject, the other one remains an object. Which object to transform into a subject depends on what you want to put the focus on.

• Impersonal passive voice

It is characterized by the fact of using verbs related to perception (Intransitive Verb) for example: say (say), think (think), suppose (assume) know (know / know), expect (hope), consider(consider), among others.

We note that the Impersonal Passive Voice is a type of construction which is used very often by the media, especially in the editorial team.

Unlike the Personal Passive Voice, where the direct object of the active sentence turns to occupy the place of subject in the passive sentence (where is necessary a transitive verb) in the Impersonal Passive Voice since the verbsused are intransitive, there is no object that can perform that function and the following structure is needed:

subject + auxiliary verb (be) + main verb (past participle)

• Conjugation of passive voice
Conjugation of verbs in the passive tense is rather easy, as the main verb is always in past participle form and the auxiliary verb is always be. To form the required tense, we conjugate theauxiliary verb.
Example:
• present simple: It is done
• present continuous: It is being done
• present perfect: It has been done
