Use Eye Protection. PVC pipe, when cut, can produce dust and other fine particles that could end up in the end users eyes. Use proper eye protection when cutting PVC pipe. Use clamps and other practical methods to secure PVC pipe. Keep PVC pipe clamped down to a secure surface if cutting by hand. Use a specialized clamp to secure PVC pipe if using power tools. Use caution when bending orflexing PVC pipe. PVC has elastic properties and may spring back quickly, causing injury or other bodily harm. Use proper ventilation. PVC pipe can release toxins into the air when cut briskly or becomes heated. Use a respirator when working indoors, or perform all activities outdoors, if available. Additionally, PVC cements are also noxious and can cause dizziness unless proper ventilation isused. Check the quality of PVC pipe. Verify that the PVC pipe being used is either Furniture Grade, or, if Plumbing Grade, is not old and brittle. Plumbing Grade PVC pipe that has been exposed to ultraviolet rays can become brittle and crack, causing potential injury from shards when cut at high speeds.
