The Unreliable Narrator in Poe's Fiction
Poe writes concise tales in which he reflects the complex psychological state of the protagonists. Themajority of his tales mark a descent into the dark recesses of the mind to explore the mysteries of the unconscious. He also wants to enter thedark regions of the human psyche.
We are going to talk about different stories of Poe and its narrators, They cannot be trusted to tell the truth. For instance, the narrators of "The Tell-Tale Heart" and "The Black Cat" insist upon their sanity even though they have a criminal mind. Or in“Ligeia”, in which the protagonist is addicted to opium, he creates doubts upon his supernatural experiences.

He deals with self-confessedmurderers with an urge of self-destruction. Poe is fascinated with the idea of a crime without a clear motive in which the murderer is a mystery tohimself. He is less interested in the murders themselves than in the confession to them. These are stories of crime and confession. The protagonists ofthese tales are in fact victims of the 'Perverse'.
He employs the first-person point of view in order to prevent knowledge of other potentialpoints of view.
Although not all of Poe's protagonists in his poems show clear signs of madness, many do show elements of instability or ofhallucinations. His style of narration leaves to us the matter of trust. It is open to different interpretations. So we cannot really trust the narrator.
