The estimated population of the Republic of Chile to 2010 amounts to 17,094,275 inhabitants,with a density of 20 inhabitants per/ km ². Of these, approximately 40% is concentrated in the metropolitan area of Santiago
Compared with other countries in ancient cultures, thepopulation of Chile is not large. However, in the last 150 years has experienced strong growth. According to the census of the Republic, in 1835 Chile's population was 1,010,336 in 1895 was2,695,625, in 1907 reached 3,220,531 in 1940 rose to 5,023,539, in 1960 amounted to 7374 115 in 1970 turned out to be 8,884,768.

In 2050 it is estimated that the Chilean population would grow to between 17.9 and23.7 million between bears and bulls calculations.
