El presente ensayo está dedicado a todos militares, políticos y diplomáticos peruanos y chilenos que, en busca de una solución a lasdelimitaciones marítimas entre ambos países, han agotado esfuerzos por llegar a un entendimiento pacífico. En honor de su lucha, talento y perseverancia en los años trascurridos y los que quedan por venir. Es el mismo sentimiento que nos mueve a nosotros: cadetes de la Marina de Guerra del Perú y nos alienta a cumplir nuestro deber, en tiempos de guerra y en tiempos de paz.AGRADECIMIENTO

RESUMEN
Este ensayo presenta la postura chilena frente al diferendo marítimo presentado por Perú ante la Corte de Internacional de Justicia de la Haya(16 de enero del 2008).
El estudio expuso en retrospectiva: los hechos que motivaron la controversia; teniendo sus inicios en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX (cuando Chile y Perú se unían en el Tratado de Ofensiva y Defensiva frente a la amenaza Española); los motivos que desataron la Guerra del Pacífico; la cronología de todos los acuerdos hallados, que anteceden al diferendo; la posición dechile frente a esta demanda y sus argumentos más importantes dentro del contexto político actual.
Para Chile los límites marítimos han sido definidos en 1952 y 1954 cuando ambos países suscribieron convenios de pesca donde se especificaban claramente las fronteras marítimas.

ABSTRACT

This essay presents the Chilean position before the maritime dispute submitted by Peru to the International Court of Justice in The Hague (January 16, 2008).
The study presented in hindsight: The facts that motivated the dispute; bearing in minds their early in the second half of the 19th century (when Chile and Peru joined in the Treatyof Offensive and Defensive against the Spanish threat); the reasons that triggered the Pacific War; the chronology of all agreements found that precede the dispute; the position of Chile against this lawsuit and its most important arguments within the current political context.
For Chile maritime boundaries have been defined in 1952 and 1954 when both countries signed agreements of fishing wherethe maritime borders are clearly specified.
