Energy is the ability to do work.
Work is done when a force causes an object to move in the direction of the force.
Kinetic energy is the energy of motion.
Moving water and wind are examples ofkinetic energy.
The faster something is moving, the more kinetic energy it has. The greater the mass of a moving object, the greater the kinetic energy
Potential energy is the stored energy ofan object. It is the energy an object has because of its position.
Gravitational potential energy is the energy stored in an object as the result of its vertical position or height.
Mechanicalenergy is the total energy of motion and position of an object.
Thermal Energy is the kind of energy that is related to and/or caused by heat.
Particles move faster at higher temperatures than atlower temperatures.
The faster the particles move, the greater their kinetic energy and the greater the object’s thermal energy.
Light energy is produced by the vibrations of electrically chargedparticles called photons.
The heat produced by the Sun travels from the Sun to the Earth via waves known as electromagnetic waves.
Light or Radiant energy is kinetic energy.
Chemical Energy
It isthe energy stored in a substance and released during a chemical reaction. Chemical energy is potential energy.
Sound Energy
Sound energy is caused by an object’s vibrations.
Electrical EnergyIt is the energy of moving electrons.
Nuclear Energy
It is the energy that comes from changes in the nucleus of an atom.
Fusion occurs when two or more nuclei (the plural of nucleus) jointogether, and fission occurs when the nucleus of an atom splits apart
The sun uses Nuclear Fusion to produce energy. hydrogen atoms are combined to make helium. the extra energy produced is released asheat and light.
Nuclear Fission is a way of splitting an atom into two smaller atoms. the extra energy is released as heat and radiation.
Nuclear power plants use fission to make electricity.
