1. From the context of the story, who controls the town? Explain.

According to how the town was acting and the way they reacted to orders and traditions, they appear to be following Mr. Summers,because he was seen as the one who organized everything and decided the important stuff.

2. Is structure of the town and the lottery democratic? Explain
Well most of the time it is but thelottery is not because it is random and this is not democratic because not everyone is agreeing that they should kill the people who win the lottery.
3. Which characters are static and which aredynamic?

We learn that Tessie Hutchinson ends up being the dynamic character of the story. When she finds out that her husband, Bill Hutchinson, is the winner of this lottery she begins to complainsaying that he did not have enough time to choose any paper he wanted. Bill, still not having a problem with the lottery, tells Tessie to shut up and they continue on. All of Tessie's life she has beenpeer pressured into thinking that the lottery was just a fun thing that the town had always done. It is not until she is declared the winner that her attitude changes about the lottery, and she learnsthat peer pressure can sometimes lead you to a position that you never wanted to be in.

4. How is the choice of the lottery foreshadowed?
Some of the foreshadowing in this story is ironic. Forexample, if you look at the opening paragraphs, it seems like a beautiful day, even a perfect day, so much so that something bad must happen to darken it. The names do then provide a more specificforeshadowing. "Graves" refers to death. "Delacroix" means "of the cross" in French, which indicates that a public killing like a crucifixion will happen.
The pile of stones is a hint that something willhappen; what could it be for, after all? The box for names is black, like a coffin. At one point, Mr. Summers says, "Little late today, folks." If someone is "late," he or she could be dead. Also,...
