The Three processes involved in one's active memory systems
In many ways human mechanical memory acts like acomputer. Both systems process information and both allow encoding, storage and retrieval of data(coon and Mitterer, 2009, p.288).
Our brain encodes all the information in order to be stored. Text,numbers, pictures, audio, and nearly any other form of information can be converted into a string of bits, or binary digits, each of which has a value of 1 or 0. The most common unit of storage is the byte,equal to 8 bits. A piece of information can be handled by any computer whose storage space is large enough to accommodate the binary representation of the piece of information, or simplydata(http:wikipedia.org/computer_data_storage). We do not use numbers however our brain uses different sensory codes(transforming something a person sees hears, thinks, or feels into a memory), in order forthose codes to becomes a record in our experiences. If the information is not encoded it will be hard to be kept it in our memory. Both computers and human brain need to encode in order to recall later.Computers have the ability to store plenty of information. A hard drive in a computer is somehow like our long term memory, it holds a massive amount of information in binary form and itswaiting there to be retrieved at any moment. Computers can continue to store memories as long as more RAM is added. The information never goes away unless the data is damaged or corrupted in some way. Thecomputer stores information in a more organized way and also it hardly changes (only if we tell the computer to do it so). Compared to a computer, our brain sometimes fails to store information,struggles to locate buried information, loses information and sometimes remembers things incorrectly.
