Racism

What is the meaning of racism? Racism is a doctrine that exalts the superiority of one race against another, based on biological traits or also known as racial discrimination. This term isoften closely associated and confused with xenophobia; I refer to "hatred, disgust or hostility to foreigners". However, there are some differences between the two concepts, because racism is anideology of superiority, while the xenophobia is a feeling of rejection. Xenophobia is directed only against foreigners, unlike racism. Racism is also linked to other concepts that sometimes are confused,as ethnocentrism, casteism, classism, colonialism, sexism and even homophobia.
The attitudes, values and systems established racism, overtly or covertly. A hierarchy among ethnic or racial groups,used to justify the privileges or advantages enjoyed by the dominant group.
To combat racism, the United Nations in 1965 adopted the International Convention on the Elimination of all forms of RacialDiscrimination and established on March 21 as the international day for the Elimination of Racial discrimination. All this happened thanks to a pastor of the Baptist Church U.S. called Martin LutherKing, Jr. He developed a crucial role in the United States at the head of the civil rights movement for African-Americans and also participated as an activist in numerous protests against the war ofViet Nam and poverty in general.

Luther King, was a civil rights activist from a young age, he organized and carried out peaceful activities demanding the right to vote, to non-discrimination andother basic civil rights for African Americans in United States. Among his most memorable acts are the Bus boycott of Montgomery in 1955, its support for the foundation of the Conference on Christianleadership of the South in 1957 (of what would become its first President) and the leadership of the March on Washington for jobs and freedom in 1963, at the end of which pronounced his famous speech "I...
