SCHOOL BUS BODY SPECIFICATIONS


84 PASSENGER SIZE REAR ENGINE BUS


The School Corporation is bidding for one or more 84 passenger size rear engine school buses. The chassis must meet all Federal and State of Indiana requirements and specifications, as well as these listed below. Bidders are to use THESE FORMS ONLY in submitting bid and must state compliance or detail all alternates orequals. On the line to the right of each item in these specifications, the bidder must indicate by YES that they meet this item OR must explain the alternate equipment bid. Failure to do so will result in the School Corporation assuming the bid submitted does not meet the specifications and therefore the bid will not be considered.

ITEM DESCRIPTION COMPLIANCE/ALTERNATE

Aisle: Thereshall be a minimum 12" wide aisle from the entrance door to all
emergency doors. ______________


Assist Rail: There shall be stainless steel assist rails one on each side of the
entrance door. ______________


Bumpers: Front and Rear: Shall be formed from 3/16” plate steel min. The bumpers
shall be a minimum of 9 1/2" high after forming. ______________Color: Exterior: Shall be National School Bus Yellow. This paint shall be a baked-on high


solids polyurethane. Trim, including guard rails, warning light visors, and door handles


shall be black. Interior: Shall be light gray baked-on enamel. ______________



Defrosters: Defroster shall be sufficient capacity to keep windshield clear of fog, snow,


and ice.______________



Doors: The service door is an air-operated, outward opening, two-panel door with a
three position switch on door. Each panel shall provide maximum visibility to the loading
area. The side emergency door shall be 24” wide, located in the center on the left side. ______________



Electrical: The electrical system shall be 12-volt with breakers on all circuits. Thewiring


shall be color and number coded and a wiring diagram shall be furnished with each bus.


Noise suppression switch. ______________



Emergency Exits: All emergency exits shall conform to FMVSS 217. Emergency Door:


There shall be an emergency door located on the left side of the bus in the center. The


left side emergency door and the rear pushout emergency windowshall be equipped with


a system of audible buzzers which will sound at the exit and in the driver’s area when the


release mechanism is moved toward the open position. Rear pushout emergency window


shall be equipped with gas springs. Reflexite tape as per FMVSS. One Transpec Triple


Value roof hatch.______________




Engine Compartment: The rear engine compartment shall be fully insulated with thermal


and sound insulation sandwiched between the interior davenport seat panels and


Galvalume or aluminized steel engine compartment panels. The engine door shall provide


access to the engine compartment and related components. ______________



Safety Equipment: Afive pound dry type chemical fire extinguisher, metal type first aid


kit, seat belt cutter, and a set of triangle flares all in accordance with FMVSS and state


specifications. ______________



Floor Covering: Floor covering shall be heavy-duty vinyl. ______________



Guard Rails: Minimum of four guard rails to be supplied: One located below windows,


onelocated at seat cushion level, one located at floor level, one located at bottom of skirt.

Side rails shall be fluted at the bottom to allow for moisture drainage. ______________
