Células madre para curar sordera

Una cura para la sordera utilizando células madre parece estar cada vez más cerca, ya queunos científicos británicos de la Universidad de Sheffield han logrado recrear en un laboratorio las células de las microscópicas vellosidades que recogen las ondas de sonido en el oído interno ylas transmiten al cerebro humano.
Si un paciente ha perdido las células ciliadas, podrían ser sustituidas por estas y recuperar la audición.
“El problema con la sordera es que las célulasciliadas sólo se producen durante las etapas de desarrollo”, aseguró Marcello Rivolta, quien dirigió el estudio.
“Si estas células se pierden durante la etapa adulta, es imposible regenerarlas.Así que lo que hicimos fue volver a esas etapas iniciales de desarrollo en el embrión para identificarlas, aislarlas y multiplicarlas en el laboratorio”, dijo el científico.
De momento, la primerafase del proyecto ha sido un éxito, pero ahora deben comprobar con animales si las células creadas logran recuperar las funciones auditivas
