Accordingto ISO 9000:2000 Quality management
systems – Fundamentals and vocabulary, an audit is:
‘A systematic, independent, and documented process for
obtaining audit evidence and evaluating it objectively to
determine the extent to which audit criteria are fulfilled.’
Therefore a management system audit is an impartial
assessment of your processes to ensure that your
management system iseffectively achieving its stated
objectives and meeting the requirements of
ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001 or other management system.
Formal management systems audits are planned and
conducted using the principles of ISO 19011:2002
