Hemophilia is an inherited disorder in whit the blood doesn’t clot how it should. About 18,000 people in the United States suffer this disorder and there are about 400 babies born with thisdisorder each year. Hemophilia is a disorder usually suffered by males; there are very few women who suffer this. People that suffer hemophilia usually bleed for a long time after an accident or afteran injury; they also bleed into their knees ankles and elbows. When they bleed in the joints they suffer intense pain that can lead to arthritis. The most dangerous this is the bleeding in the brain;this causes a very serious problem and needs instant treatment.
Symptoms:
* In some cases, lengthy bleeding after circumcision
* Excessive bruising
* Swollen, painful joints
*Swollen, tender muscles
* Excessive bleeding from the gums, tongue, or mouth following injury (seen particularly in infants and toddlers)
* Severe bleeding after tooth extractions or other invasivedental procedures
* Severe bleeding after injuries or operations
* Lengthy, uncontrollable bleeding -- either heavy or oozing in nature -- particularly after injury, immunizations or surgicalor dental procedures
* Any episode of bleeding unrelated to a particular injury or event
* Pain, swelling, warmth, or redness in a joint or muscle
* Parents who have a family history ofhemophilia and are expecting a baby
* Any signs of internal bleeding, such as a change in consciousness, alertness, or memory or difficulty breathing (note that these symptoms may also be signs ofother medical problems unrelated to hemophilia)
