INTRODUCTION
Route 66(also known as The Main Street of America and The Mother Road) was a highway in the U.S. Highway system and was established on November 11, 1926. Route 66 crosses 8 states and 3 time zones: itoriginally ran from Chicago, Illinois, through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California, before ending at Los Angeles for a total of 2,448 miles (3,940 km).
Route 66 is anAmerican cultural icon.   For some, the road was a way to get from here to there, for others was an ideal, a dream.
HISTORY
With this highway the government pretended to link small towns withmetropolitan capitals.
In the early years, drivers were on their own. They had to carry their own food, and everything that they needed for travelling.

Unfortunately, a little time after works began, camethe depresión.
However, traffic grew on the Route 66 because much of the highway was essentially flat and this made the highway a popular truck route. Also Route 66 was the main way of the migrantswho went west.
The route passed through lots of small towns and immediately the tourist industry began to grow creating a rise of small business (mainly motels, service stations, restaurants, andgarages) up and down the highway.
