Irish tradition: Saint Patrick’s Day
Ireland is a very beautiful country full of green spaces, vegetation,landscapes, kind of people, traditions and so on. But Ireland has one specific, wonderful and international tradition: Saint Patrick’s Day.
The holiday was established in Ireland in the 1600’s when theChurch decided to have an annual feast recognizing the patron saint. But as time goes on St. Patrick’s Day became very popular and it started to be celebrated in many cultures and countries around theworld, like the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, Singapore and Russia. In Ireland, when the holiday was first established, it did not matter where you were from or what your community statuswas, all people were welcomed to celebrate it saint. Now, this holiday takes place in many cultures all over the world by people of all different ethnic, financial and religious backgrounds.
Theintent of this holiday is to celebrate St. Patrick, the man credited for spreading Christianity throughout Ireland. It is celebrated in March 17th because that is the day that St. Patrick died.
St.Patrick’s Day is getting bigger in popularity. When it was first established, it was only celebrated by Catholics in Ireland. Now, it has become a worldwide celebration of the Irish culture. Andnow that globalization has taken its course and the annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival has been established, the holiday is more popular than ever with crowds in Dublin reaching 300,000 in numbers on St.Patrick’s Day. This holiday is celebrated in a lot of ways, but it has some characteristics items like you have to wear anything green, a shirt, a skirt, jeans, anything, but it has to be green.
