Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald was an American author of novels and short stories , he is considered a member of The Lost Generation, the self-exiled expatriates who lived and wrote inParis between the wars. These writers, looking for freedom of thought and action, changed the face of modern writing. Realistic and rebellious, they wrote what they wanted and fought censorship (censura ) for profanity and sexuality. They incorporated Freudian ideas into their characters and styles. This group included Ernest Hemingway, Gertrude Stein, John Dos Passos, Henry Miller, F. ScottFitzgerald. This term of `` Los generation ´´ was coined by Gertrude Stein who used the phrase in conversation with Ernest Hemingway, supposedly quoting a garage mechanic saying to her, "You are alla lost generation." The phrase signifies a disillusioned postwar generation characterized by lost values, lost belief in the idea of human progress, and a mood of futility and despair leading tohedonism . The hedonism is the view that our fundamental moral obligation is to maximize pleasure or happiness.
Those who survived into the decade of the 1920s perceived their lives as being neatly ( concuidado ) divided into a before, a during, and an after, categories most of them equated with the stages of life known as youth, young manhood, and maturity. What bound ( limitaba ) the generation of1914 together was not just their experiences during the war, as many of them later came to believe, but the fact that they grew up and formulated their first ideas in the world from which the warissued ( cuestión ), a world framed ( marcado) by two dates, 1914 and 1929. This world was the "vital horizon" within which they began conscious historical life.
