Bede and Beowulf
What about the author/s of Beowulf?
-The author/s is unknown , but studying handwriting they found it was written in 1000 ad by 2 unknown Anglo Saxon monks.
Didthey recite or write it in English?
-It was writed and recited in Britain.
Why don`t we know their names?
-It's been passed down for so many generations that the original author/s was forgotten.Where do we first hear about Caedmon?
-When he sings Caedmon`s Hymn.
Bede is a Christian historian writing for a Christian community; do yo think they would enjoy Anglo-Saxon pagan stories?-No.
What was the problem with these stories?
-these stories were against Christianism.
According to Bede, was Caedmon an Anglon-Saxon monk or a poet?
-He was a monk in the monastery of Whitby.How did become the first poet?
By a gift of the lord, who gaves him the power of the poetry.
Do you see any echoes in his hymn of Anglo Saxon comitatus code?
Yes, there are comitatus code inthe text.
Do you see any variations, alliteration, kennings or heitis that might reveal oral composition and transmission?
Yes, the nine lines are alliterative vernaculars.

The ist part takes place in youth of the hero and the second part, beowulf is the king ofthe Gautas and he will fight with the dragon.

attributes were that infuse fear rivals and all had to submit and pay tribute tohim.
Are there any legendary mythologial features inthis portrait?
