Ser colombiano

Known for our hospitality, Colombians also distinguish ourselves by a core value. The passion for everything we do; the desire to make foreigners fall in love, not only with the natural beauties of our country but also with it’s habitants.
In my family we are accustomed to meet each Christmas and New Year’s, therefore my aunt, uncle and cousins from all parts of the world come to share a supperat Christmas with gifts for everyone; we open them at 12:00 midnight. We use to pray the “Novena Navideña” that starts from December 16 to December 24 where every day we mainly eat “bunuelos”, custard, puff postry, caramel and figs, wich is known as a Christmas dish. And on December 31 we also celebrate with a dinner and we eat twelve grapes and we make a wish for the New Year’s coming ; we danceuntil down, and the next day we go to the whole family to a park for lunch and feel the hangover from the night before.
Another very characteristic feature of the Colombians is the correct use of Spanish, considered one of the best among those Spanish speaking countries.
Colombia as a country of regions with different climates, altitudes, soils, wildlife and biodiversity.
Each regionpossesses representative ingredients, cooking methods and emblematic dishes therefore to speak of the Colombian cuisine involves talking about the regional cuisines of the six major regions: Andean, Caribean, Pacific, Orinoco, Amazon and Island.
The vallenato is my favourite music and it’s talk about love. It’s themes include loves, spite, separations, reconciliations, etc. Usually the exception ofproper names to facilitate their dedications.
In Colombia and for me is important to be on time for anything. However people are not always or some times the teachers or the doctors are not punctual. So if we are not on time for a class the majority of the teachers don’t allow us to to enter or we simply lose the appointment with the doctor. It’s so important to be on time for only commitmentand weare not going to get upset with the other people.
The advantage of being punctual is that maybe you can go first to the doctor before the office gets full. Or you can have more chances to check your homework before the class starts.

My eating habits have changed a lot since I came here to USA, because in Colombia I had breakfast, lunch but I didn’t eat dinner. Here in my host family I don’thave lunch like a main dish like I do in Colombia, and some times eat breakfast and dinner. For me it has been a change so hard, because in my home country my mom was the person who cooked and it was so easy for me to eat at definite time.

My host family is a good place to stay because I feel like in my house, they are really nice, I love the kids and I enjoy a lot of time with them playingoutside or just down stairs. The majority of the time that I spend with the whole family is at super time, when we talk about everything that happens during the day. Most of the times we use to go out for dinner that’s why here in USA I try a lot of kind of food that I never did at home, like Chinese food that is delicious.
Here in USA I knew the seasons for first time and the season that I likethe best was fall because the weather is so nice and its so beautiful when you see the different kind of colors of the trees and leaves falling down of them.
Here in Maine I spend a really good time with my friends going out to night clubs, bowling, and all kind of light houses taking a lot of pictures and having a lot of fun.
I have learned too many things like the life style is so easy becauseyou can have a car to go everywhere without a lot of traffic. Also the people exercise a lot so no one is fat because they eath so healthy.
To came here as an au pair was so hard for me because I’m an only child and I never went away of my house, I missed a lot my mom, my house, my university, my friends, my boyfriend and was sad for me at the beginning because I had to celebrate my birthday...
