The drug and arms trafficking may lose their spot as the world’s number one crime. Who are they loosing the battle to? Sex trafficking. Sex traffickingis happening right now, around us and some of us don’t even see it. It’s a form of slavery, which is induced on children under 18 years old, in which the person is obligated to become part ofcommercial sex. Their traffickers use psychological treatment to make their victims believe that if they don’t do what they are told they are going to see the consequences. Most of the children that are partof this slavery where either promised a better life in a different country, a false marriage proposal, sold by their own family or were kidnapped by their traffickers.

Sex traffickers usedifferent methods that put their victims in harm. They starve them, beat them up, practice gang raped in them, drug them, made them abort and make treats against their family. This kind of treatment gives thevictims health risks (drug and alcohol addiction), physical injuries (broken bones, concussions), sexually transmitted diseases (HIV/ AIDS) and psychological harms (shame, grief, mistrust,self-hatred that can lead to suicide). One of the worst one is the traumatic bonding, “a form of coercive control in which the perpetrator instills in the victim fear as well as gratitude for being allowed tolive”.

There are many forms in which the victims are part of the commercial sex movement. It can start as stripping in a club until eventually participating in pornography and prostitution. Thistype of action occurs in many places around us. It happens in massage parlors, spas, strip clubs, houses and motels. By being in these places they take the risk of getting caught more easily.
