ABSTRACT
The 1919 Treaty of St. Germain-en-Laye was a treaty between the Allies and the Austrian Empire; it officially ended World War I , was ratified by the Austrian Constituent Assembly on Oct. 17, 1919. It went into force on July 16, 1920. (The FreeDictionary)

The Treaty of St.-Germain reflected the changes that had taken place in Europe as a result of the fall of Austria-Hungary. At the same time, its terms, dictated by the powers of the Entente, laid the foundation for acute international conflicts, as well as conflicts between nationalities. The seizure of Austria in March 1938 by fascist Germany, as well as other acts of fascist aggression onthe eve of and during World War II (1939–45), signified the forcible nullification of the terms of the Treaty of St.-Germain and the other treaties of the Versailles-Washington system. (The Free Dictionary)
Although it did not feature reparations or the physical transfer of material to other countries, its territorial terms were quite harsh. Mostly, however, it reflected military and demographicconditions in Central Europe. (Hobson's Choice, 2008)
MILITARY
The allied winners of World War One did not want to leave Austria weak from a military point of view, However they did not want to leave space for an army resurrection. This treaty abolished conscription and limited the Austrian army to a force of thirty thousand volunteers. The Saint Germain treaty came along with several militaryclauses that not only decreased the Austrian Army but left Austria vulnerable. Some of the most important classes dictated that their army shall in future only be constituted and recruited by means of voluntary enlistment and should only be devoted exclusively to the maintenance of order within the territory of Austria and to the control of her frontiers. Preparation for war or army mobilization isforbidden .surrender its war vessels and military aircraft. (Article.wn, 2010)
The treaties general military goal was to control Austria’s army; the allied winners wanted Austria’s army use to be limited, controlled and reduced. Taking actions such as reducing the period of time officers and soldiers were allowed to work for. Therefore, there were many unemployed soldiers because they exceededthe age range. (Facing History)All this process was to create a new army and all officers serving at the time who did not join the new army would have been released from all military obligations such as any military exercises, whether theoretical or practical. Also the newly appointed should undertake to serve on the active list for 20 consecutive years at least. At the time the most importantthing was to remove power from others in order to make your country stronger and intimidating.
Other of the most important clauses among the articles was stating that the number of gendarmes, customs officers, foresters, members of the local or municipal police or other like officials was not allowed to exceed the number of men employed in a similar capacity than in 1913 .In chapter five the treatycontains clauses that include Schools, educational establishments, military clubs and societies. One of the most important articles in this section is number 127 which mentions that the number of students admitted to attend the courses in military schools shall be strictly in proportion to the vacancies to be filled in the cadres of officers. In the military aspect the treaty of Saint Germain wasvery strict and the allied winners were aiming for a better organized army that as mentioned earlier, they could control.
Other point that is worthy of highlighting is the weapon prohibition to Austria. The use of flame throwers, asphyxiating, poisonous or other gases, and all similar liquids, materials or devices being prohibited, their manufacture and importation were strictly forbidden in...
