General theme:

Eighteen-year-old JamalMalik, a former street child from the Juhu slum, is a contestant on the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, and is one question away from the grand prize. However, before the Rs.20,000,000 question, he is detained and interrogated by the police, who suspect him of cheating because of the unlikelihood that a simple "slumdog" could possibly know the answers. Jamal recounts, throughflashbacks, the incidents in his life which provided him with each answer. These flashbacks tell the story of Jamal, his brother Salim, and Latika.

Jamal Malik is anorphan teen from the slums of Mumbai, with memories of a lost love enveloped within a disturbing childhood full of misery and violence. He gets selected to appear on the Indian version of the TV show"Who wants to be a millionaire" and goes on to answer all the questions correctly...

Latika is also an orphan, which meets Jamal and his brother “Salim”, she fell in love with Jamal but manycircumstances between them, make her life very unpleasant.

The story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day of his life. With thewhole nation watching, he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India's "Kaun Banega Crorepati?" (2000) (Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?) But when the show breaks for thenight, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much? Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew...
