Explain the three paradoxes that Davis claims the standard theory gives rise to. If you were a defender of the standard theory, how might you respond to Davis's arguments?Whistleblowing refers to the revelation of information about an organization which would not ordinarily be revealed. Michael Davis shows three paradoxes between the acceptedtheory on whistleblowing and what is actually known about whistleblowing. These paradoxes go against the accepted Standard Theory. The first paradox is called “The paradox ofburden (601)”, its concern that these good Samaritans are put at risk in losing their careers, financial security and personal relations. The second paradox is called “Theparadox of missing harm (601)”, concerns the prevention of harm, this theory specify that the harm can be physical, psychological, and or financial. And the third paradoxwhich is related to the second paradox is “The paradox of failure (601)” concerns that in most cases the whistleblower actually never really prevents harm, however it may betheir intention .As we see in the book the Standard Theory seeks to justify whistleblowing by its ability to prevent harm. I argue with Michael Davis theory in first placebecause I think we all do have the moral right to speak up and reveal information about illegal and /or immoral conduct which is taken place in the organization we pertain toor had worked for in order to protect society. I consider immorally wrong not to do it; even though by whistleblowing will be confronting our loyalty to the organization. Inaddition, I consider whistleblowing under certain conditions as a morally justified act that comprise professional responsibility and it’s done to benefit society as a whole.
