James Naismith was the Canadian physical education instructor who invented basketball in 1891. Canadian recalled an old childhood game called "Duck on a Rock"(the duck on a rock), which wasto try to reach an object placed on a rock throwing a stone. James Naismith fue elinstructor de educación física canadiense que inventó el baloncesto en 1891.El canadiense recordó un antiguo juego de su infancia denominado "duck on a rock" (El pato sobre una roca), que consistía enintentar alcanzar un objeto colocado sobre una roca lanzándole una piedra. Naismith pidió al encargado del colegio unas cajas de 50 cm. de diámetro pero lo único que le consiguió fueron unas canastasde melocotones, que mandó colgar en las barandillas de la galería superior que rodeaba el gimnasio, a una altura determinada.
