A hard decision
My mother had a goal to accomplish when she decided to come to The United States, and I am so proud of her that she did what she wanted. Herbig goal was to bring me here legally. It took 11 years, and with all the effort that she did, working hard, saving money, married a nice man, and getting mypapers, here I am. As she says in the interview, “I came with a purpose, and it is to stay here and have a better life. I never thought in go back to Hondurasbecause my family paid a lot of money for me to get here. But I always was thinking in my daughter, Sergia, and here I am with my two daughters, Sergia who was born inHonduras, and Bianca who born here in The United States.” She passed through many obstacles that made her strong during here immigration experience. Forexample, she had to pretend to be pregnant, so people would take care of her. My grandpa told the coyote that she (my mom) had to be safe. The journey took seven days, and she was safe the entire time because she was “pregnant.”

In Honduras my mom, Lidia Leos, was happy with her family, but at the same time she feltsomething was missing. That something was money! She was working as a nurse in Honduras, but the Hospital wasn’t paying her really enough for all the work she did. Forexample, she took care of more patients, and she had to work on Holidays. She was doing everything right. She loved her work, but the money didn’t come. TheHospital said that the following month the money would pay, but that month never came. Six months later she made the decision to come to The United States in 1997.
