On my 9th year in high school I needed to choose between taking science courses like physics, chemistry, and biology or humanities courses like history art, French and Latin as a language. For me the decision was easy, I was always more into science than to humanities. Some of my friends liked humanities more and instead of taking those courses they decide to take sciencesince everyone think “science makes you be smarter”. This way they decide instead of going for what they wanted, to study what people have told them was better. Science vs. art represents a binary system. When we think of these two words it come to our minds a number of characteristics that identify each. Without realizing each of these features contradicts each other. Also according to thesecharacteristics we can classified these terms into two distinct groups. Like anything in life features not only identify objects or separate groups, but also identify us as individuals. It is typical to classify things according to their characteristics, therefore it is also usual that we classify ourselves as individuals, according to the characteristics with which we identify. But the interestingpart and what deserves our attention in this essay is the fact that we can not have features of two distinct groups, the fact that the groups are as predetermined as being in between the two would be a crime.
Along the history we have always classified scientists. They are or we are the people who look for the most specific and correct answer, the ones who use tools as mathematics, physics andchemistry to come to the correct answer or response. They are the type of people that dare of questions such as where do we come from, and where do we go? They create a big range of answers where one of those flies away to create a great discovery. Since the past, scientists have been always seen as crazy people that doesn’t have anything else to do, but to experiment, nevertheless they are those whohave led us to having the technology as advance as we have it now a days and to be what we are now. "Habitants of the earth living in the 21st century and with aspirations of discovering new places”
Mario Bunge defines science as “The set of knowledge obtained by observation and reasoning, and by which we can deduced principles and general laws. In its broadest sense, is used to refer to theknowledge in any field, but usually it is more applicable to those who need a process of experimental verification”. James Trefil provide us with another definition " science can be characterized as rational knowledge, accurate and verifiable. Through science research, the man has reached a conceptual reconstruction of the world that is increasing each time, being more deep and accurate". Humanbeings, by nature, tend to ask and question everything that surrounds us. This is where the question arises, are just some people scientifics, or are we all?. Following the concepts that we have we could say that we are all scientists. We all try to find answers to the questions that presents in our day to day, however from the perspective that society present to us the society we cant be allscientists.
Then there are the artists. People are always expressing feelings, thoughts, ideals, concerns, goals or life in general. Writing, painting, singing are just some of the methods or tools used by artists to shape their ideas. Their work will last in history, and through these just looking to the writing, paint or sculpt we will get to differentiate the different stages or moments in history.Artists have always been considered or characterized as creative, bohemian, liberal, outgoing and open to what is stranger and different. So, what would life be without the reading, the poems, the music, the paintings? Would it be as it is today?.
