THE GOLDEN FROG
Panama golden frog (Atelopus zeteki) is a species of anuran amphibian family Bufonidae (typical toads), which is endemic to Panama,specifically del Valle de Anton, Cocle province being possibly now extinct in the wild .
The adult male has measures 35 to 40 mm, weighing 3 to 5 grams (0.18 oz).The adult female is between 45 and 55 mm and 4 to 7 grams. They live in moist tropical forests and nearby mountains, especially associated with streams, wherethe male can grow to 48 mm and display a weight of 12 grams, and females 63 mm and 15 grams.
Has been considered a subspecies A. varius, but is now generallyconsidered a separate species. While the IUCN still classifies it as Critically Endangered species, may have been extinct in the wild since 2007. Theindividual has been collected to breed in captivity season in an attempt to preserve the species
Panama golden frogs communicate using a language corporal.5 Theamplexus can last from a few days to a couple of months, giving himself, usually in shallow streams
The golden frog seems socializarce with other frogs usingsound waves throatales and hands. These hand waves was investigated by a group of experts and amphibians seem to be used for a variety of social situations, froma friendly wave signals to desist. A synthetic frog hand movement was used, and after repeated waves of hands, authentic frog attacked.
The Panamaniangolden frog has appeared on Panamanian lottery tickets, and some regard it as a national symbol of Panama. Legends say that frogs become a solid gold when they die
