THE INEVITABLE FUTURE

By: Robert Gallant

I do not pretend to be a prophet to predict the future, It is not necessary. By seeing what is happening in the world today and by remembering a little bit of basic history, it is not difficult to see what awaits us in the near future. The intention of this paper is not to promote a pessimistic view of the world’s future, but to instigate a pragmaticview that incites thought and action. Although we may not ever be fully prepared for cataclysmic natural events, we do have the power to diminish and ultimately dissipate those man made disasters that are currently stepping on our door step.

Many things have been said in the past few years about the “end of the world”. They are instigated by prophesies left by many ancient peoples as well asindividuals including; the Hopi Indians, the Mayans, the New Testament from the Bible, Nostradamus and many others. These messages and visions are cryptic and subject to interpretation, but all coincide that there are happenings in our near future in detriment to human kind.

Because of the obscure nature of most of these prophesies those whom have dedicated time and effort to decrypt andinterpret them have come up with many natural disaster theories including: earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, volcanic eruptions and impacts by asteroids. Although any of these phenomenons are possible, and in fact inevitable, they are occurrences that have happened many times during the history of the world and in fact, the history of man kind. Any of these events on a “civilization eradicating scale” areplausible but little likely to happen in our life time, although most of these events will occur, and have occurred repeatedly in our era, they are not world scale catastrophes.

There is however, other devastating events that are not as impacting when contemplated at first glance, but nonetheless, whose results are as or more catastrophic at a global scale. These happenings are induced by man,and are much more predictable and visible than natural disasters. In fact, they are developing while you read this article, but most people prefer to ignore them, hopping that someone else will take care in resolving them.

We must not mistake that our civilization has developed a global economy, where, what happens in one part of the world, inevitably impacts the rest of the globe. Some goodrecent examples of this fact are the recent economical recessions, pollution, food shortages, wars and terrorism. In each case, what was once a localized issue has become in our contemporary world, events that impact most nations of the globe. In all these cases, they are happenings induced by civilization.

The catastrophic nature of the events bellow described, has more to do with the fact thatthey are all interrelated, and must be seen as such, and not as isolated events. The vision of modern societies is that with money, technology and government, anything can be resolved. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Although these events are not necessarily catastrophic to man as a species, they are in fact cataclysmic to modern society and how we live as individuals.

Disasters In TheMaking

Economic Collapse: Today’s global economy is based on perpetual motion, credit and interrelations with other nations in the world. This reality results in the possibility of financial risk being dramatically impacted not only by the events of one nation, but the events that occur in most other nations as well. As the probability of negatively impacting occurrences is broadened, theirlikelihood are dramatically increased.

It is well known that the world’s economy is held in place by perpetual motion and growth. This implies that as long as all the players of the economy grow, that the economy machine will work. We have all recently lived the economic disaster of 2008, where secondary credits on homes in the US collapsed and impacted the world through a domino effect. As...
