The Lady With The Ermine

This is a imitational and also emotional painting. This is a painting of Leonardo Da Vinci, he did this around 1489–1490. In this painting we can see that Leonardo painted CeciliaGallerani, she was the mistress of Ludovico Sforza, the Duke of Milan. When Leonardo finished the painting Ludovido did a poem to the painting.
This painting shows the relationshipbetween animals and humans, because Cecilia is holding an ermine that means pregnancy, purity and royalty, also the ermine was Ludovico's emblem. The painting is interesting becauseCecilia's body is looking to the right and her head is to the left side. The jewelry she has means that Ludovico loved her, but if we took a look in her clothing, we can notice that isreally simple, so that means she wasn't of royalty, but she has in her dress a blue tone that means that is from royalty, but with this Leonardo wanted to say that she was importantbecause of her poetry and her beauty. If we analyze the technique is done in fresco, which was a new technique that he implement, also Leonardo used sfumato to shade and make thepainting more realistic and oil.
Leonardo was forced to do this painting, because the duke wanted a Cecilia's painting, so Leonardo painted her. Leonardo was influenced by artist of theRenaissance, this period has religious and mythological paintings, but Leonardo not only did religious paintings, but he also was a portrait painter. He influenced other artist likeVerrocchio and also from other time, he has been a big influence in art.
Leonardo’s painting made the techniques that he used for this painting more known, and other artist started topaint in oil with sfumato and in fresco, also this was one of the four portraits where he paints a lady. He had a huge influence in Renaissance and also in the following generations.
