Article 8: Best material for making model sailboats
Title: Model Boat Materials
Source: www.building-model-boats.com
Date: not specifiedThere are many types of materials to make model boats out of but the most popular include brass, copper, steel, led or pewter or brittania. Brass is the most popular ofthese materials because most of the obvious parts on a model boat are made from it even including propellers and rudders. It also has other benefits. For example, it is moreresilient than copper, it is easier to work with than stainless steel, and it can be glued, painted or blackened. Copper is also a good material to consider when making amodel boat because it does not corrode easily and it is easy to form. Both copper and brass are used mostly on cylinders, boilers and pistons.
Steel, lead, pewter andbrittania are not as widely used on models as copper and brass. One main reason steel cannot be used as often is because it rusts and corrodes very easily. But, it can be usedas an inexpensive ballast weight which needs to be planted into the hull in order to get the best result. Even though steel can be used, lead is a better alternative due toits high density. Lead is considered a heavy metal and can be poisionous so many people chose to use steel instead. Lastly, pewter is an uncommon material to use whenbuilding a model ship because it can get complicated.

Word Derivation
