Description
The kingdom of Tonga is a little country, composed of several islands, which is located in the south of the Pacific Ocean and near Australia.
The official languages of Tonga are Tonganand English.
Geography
The kingdom of Tonga is an archipelago of 176 coral and volcanic islands (approximately 52 of them are inhabited), distributed over 700.000 square kilometres of ocean.Tonga's climate is mainly subtropical, and we can divide it into two periods, one warm (From december to April) and an other one cooler (from May to November).
The territory of Tonga can bedivided into four groups of Islands, each one of them has different and diverse landscapes :
Tongatapu
Tongatapu in the south, is the most populous and dynamic of the islands and this is where we canfind the capital. As a geographical curiosity has holes Houma blowers blow hole, a curious rock formations geyser-like, turned into one of its tourist attractions.
Ha'apai
With its prolificwildlife and pristine natural beaches, Ha’apai is a wonderful eco-tourism destination, and a paradise for divers and snorkellers.
Vava'u
Perfect for a holiday, is composed of 50 islands with bluelagoons, white sand beaches and coconut groves.
Eua
Inside Tongatapu's Islands Group. The most natural and scenic diversity of the country, and covered by forests.
Government and politicsThe actual king, Siaosi Tupou V, has the control of the government since the death of his father Taufa’ahau Tupou IV in 2006, when he store like the king although he had to wait a year before beingcrowned.
Since February 2000 the boss of government was the First Minister Lavaka Ala ‘Ulu Kalala. In 2006 the Doctor Feleti Sevele became the new First Minister.
The king cose the judges of theSupreme Court. Before of the creation of the Democratic Popular Party in 1994 there weren’t political parties.
