Guided tour to the Museum of regional history Gabriel Gonzales Videla

“Good afternoon Sr. My name is Belen Segovia and I will be your guide today. We are now in the lobby of the Museum of regional history G.G.V (Gabriel Gonzales…). This beautiful house oncebelonged to the Chilean president G.G.V. It has Eclectic style and was built in the XIX century. According to some historians in this very place was once located the house of one of the Spanish conquerors of Chile and also founder of this city in 1549, Francisco de Aguirre. In this museum we can appreciate a vast and wonderful collection of objects concerned to the history of La Serena and also aprecious art gallery.
As a piece of advice, please do not take photographs without turning the flash off.
Now we are about to visit the art gallery. It exhibits a wonderful collection of beautiful paintings of national and also international artists. Some of them are property of the Banco de Chile, the most important bank of this country. There are many characters and landscapes reflected en thesepaintings. You can also admire contemporary and modern painting samples.”

Now we are going to visits one of the most interesting and important rooms of themuseum, the room ‘Sala de la Conquista e inicios del periodo colonial’ or ‘Conquest room and beginnings of the colonial period’. The conquest occurred in 1541 with the foundation of Santiago, the capital city. Then the colonial period started in 1598. Here we can admire the routes the conquerors followed to reach these lands, a brief description of all of the conquerors, how the Spanish realmorganized its colonies and what the life was like for all the people who live here in the old days.

Here we have one of the most significant pieces of this room, an authentic iron breastplate used by an anonymous Spanish warrior.
