Physical properties
The nature of bonds within a substance can predict and explain some of its properties. The physical properties such as boiling and melting point and solubility.
Melting andBoiling point:
Ionic compounds tend to have high boiling and melting points as the forces of attraction between the ions in the lattice are strong. NaCl for example remains solid until about 800C. Themelting and boiling points are higher when the charge on the ions is larger because these will have higher lattice entropies.
Macromolecular or giant covalent structures also have high melting andboiling point as covalent structures also have high melting and boiling points as covalent bonds must be broken for these changes to occur so a lot of energy is required. Diamond is an example, itremains solid until about 4000C.
the stronger the bonds, the more energy will be required to break the bonds so higher boiling points and melting points.
Covalent substance with discrete molecules havelower melting and boiling points then ionic compounds do the forces they need to be overcome to separate the molecules are the reatively very weak intermolecular forces. Melting and boiling points ofthese substances will tiny defer along on the strength of this forces.
Forces and theory on melting and boiling points will increase with:

1. Increasing molecular size.
2. Strengths offorces of attraction
Solubility:
Substances that contain non-polar molecules will tend to be insoluble in water but soluble in non-polar solvents.
Substances composed my polar molecules will tend tobe more soluble in polar solvents.
Some ionic compounds are very soluble in water such as sodium chloride however there are some that are almost insoluble in water such as silver chloride.

Typesof bonding | Properties |
Van der Waal´s | Low melting point and low boiling point. Insoluble in water, soluble in non-polar solvents. Conductors of electricity |
Dipole-dipole | Melting points...
