El Neoliberalismo se caracteriza por la utilización de un mercado libre que según dicho modelo actúa como una institución perfecta, capaz de generar porsí misma un crecimiento armónico y equilibrado, con la condición de que no se intervenga en él. Por consiguiente, tanto políticas económicas de planificación o intervensionismo de mercado, como lo es el `Estado de Bienestar', son consideradas por el neoliberalismo economías intervensionistas que tienen como fin, la perturbación en el mercado.
Desde la perspectiva neoliberalista, dicho mercadoposee suficientes y perfectos mecanismos para auto-regularse. La ley de la oferta y la demanda es uno de estos mecanismos que se rigen por si mismos sin la necesidad de algún intervención “artificial”.
