The social networking services are a new way to communicating that is becoming very popular nowadays. They are online services, platforms or sites destined to the people who want to share theirinterests and activities or are interesting about exploring the interests and activities of other people.
Social networking sites normally share some common features. The users are encouraged to createprofiles talking about themselves. Users can often upload photos of themselves to their profiles, post blog entries for others to read, search for other users with similar interests and compile andshare lists of contacts. In addition, user profiles often have a section dedicated to comments from friends and other users. To protect user privacy, social networks usually have controls that allowusers to choose who can view their profile, contact them or add them as a contact. Most of them provide also means for users to interact over the internet, such as e-mail and instant messaging.
Thefirst important social networking site was Friendster and it was created about 9 years ago. A year later Friendster was followed by other social networking sites like Myspace, Linkedine or finally in2004, Facebook, the largest social networking site in the world.
In Spain approximately a 77% of the population are registered at least at one social networking site. The most popular social networkingsites in Spain are Facebook and Tuenti. They both were initially created for students, but Facebook is more used by people who has 20-40 years old while Tuenti is more common among people who has14-20 years old.
Social networking sites are very useful for many things.
