Camera Shots

For making a movie, we use a variety of camera shots to add atmosphere and create a mood for the story.

Types of shots

Extreme close-up make the viewer aware from a specificdetail in the film. Viewer aware of some specific detail in the film. 
Close-up shot taken of a person’s head from just above the head to the top of the upper chest. Allows the character to showemotions. It
Medium close-up is taken from the above the head to lower chest.
Medium shot half of the body. Character more closely by viewing their facial expressions and body language.
Medium long shotwhole person as well as some of the background. Places the person in context.
Long shot whole person and other characters, but the background dominates the shot. Understand the relationship betweenthe characters and their environment.
Extreme long shot the landscape of the film or a barely visible character in the distance of a background. Give us information about where the action is to takeplace.

Camera angles
Gives emotional information between the camera and the object being photographed.

High angle The camera is elevated above the action using a crane to give ageneral overview. (Object smaller)
Eye level is a neutral shot; the camera will be placed approximately five to six feet from the ground.
Low angle increases the height (Tom Cruise) The added heightmay feel insecure to the viewer.
Oblique/Canted angle very unusual, the camera is tilted. This technique is used to suggest POINT-OF-View shots.
