Hi there! Esta semana seguimos estudiando los tiempos compuestos. Y vamos a introducir dos nuevos tiempos que no has estudiado antes: el pasado perfecto simple y el pasado perfe3cto continuo. En español también tenemos estos mismos tiempos verbales, pero con diferentes nombres: pretérito pluscuamperfecto o ante copretérito.
Al finalizar esta semana podrás describir secuenciascronológicas en pasado, reordenar párrafos según la secuencia que siguen, y sabrás cómo y cuándo utilizar las nuevas estructuras de los tiempos compuestos en inglés.
Venezuela Music
In the years that followed the conquest, the Spanish colonists came to entirely shape the national culture of Venezuela. The influence of the native, pre-Hispanic Communities was marginal, as they were assimilated bythe strong cultural and political unity of the Spaniards. After the Spanish conquest, Venezuelan music evolved as a blend of Spanish, African and Indigenous rhythms.
Venezuelan music was influenced by African and Spanish rhythms. Today, an African influence is particularly apparent in the music of the northeast coast, formerly the ’slave Coast’. The Gaita is the traditional music of Zulia Stateand consists of rhyming vocals that are improvised over four-string guitars and maracas. The Gaita is featured in festivals throughout the year and has now become Venezuela’s traditional Christmas music. The national dance is the joropo, which is associated with the Llanos region and, like the Gaita; it is accompanied by improvised vocals, four-string guitars, maracas and harps. However, themerengue of the Dominican Republic and the Puerto Rican salsa are the most popular dances in Venezuela.

As we know, “Greenhouse gases” such as CO, in the atmosphere keep the earth warm enough to sustain the abundance of life around us. I strongly believe that human activity,such as the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation, is leading to increased atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases beyond natural levels-and hence global warming. This is the greatest threat to the health of our planet-and it is happening now. Average global temperatures have risen by 0.6C degrees over the past century. I believe the 10 hottest years on record have been in the past 14years. Glaciers that have not retreated since the last ice age 12,000 years ago are now doing so. Scientists suppose that continuing increases in average temperatures will lead to rising sea le-vels, shifting rainfall patterns and a greater incidence of extreme weather conditions such as droughts and tropical storms. Scientists have warned this could result in the creation of up to 150 million“environmental refugees”, mainly from our region.
People can already see the kind of impact that will only get worse as warming ad-vances.
