The Typical Food of Puerto Rico
All countries have a typical dish. Puerto Rico has a typical famous dish, which is rice and peas. Thetypical food is prepared with special peas which are cultivated in their ground and have a symbolic value because that grain you can find only in Puerto Rico. The rice with peas has good nutrients thatmake the person maintain health. In my opinion, Puerto Rico is special country because in their ground the Puerto Ricans can find the peas to make the rice with peas.
First, the rice and peas isprepared with oil, water, salt, ham, rice, tomato sauce and, finally, the most important, peas from the country. Their rice is for all events, but the most common day for cooking the rice is ChristmasDay. The rice and peas are very nutritious, are located in the food pyramid and are good for everybody in their lives.
Second, rice and peas are given a symbolic value for Puerto Ricans. It issomething original and is a typical meal. It uses their own beans sown in fields and is made ​​of homemade condiments. Good Puerto Rican rice and peas has green banana leaves to distinguish the wheat fromyellow rice, peas of the country, ham and a touch of red pepper cut into thin strips over rice; with this description you have an image of the rice. Often Puerto Rico is compared with the DominicanRepublic and Colombia because those countries have rice similar to ours, but without peas. For this reason, they have a cultural connection with Puerto Rico.
Finally, Puerto Ricans make their foodnational in each event, such as their Boricuas parties, holidays and festivals as in many other countries which involve Latinos. Every time a Puerto Rican moves to another country, she is made known to herfriends when they take her to meetings and share their rice and peas.
