Abstract

Thispoject is about the “Utes” a Native American tribe that lived in part of New Mexico Utah, Colorado and Nevada, Their beliefs, the way they used to organize the society and the most important things abouttheir history.


Ute Tribe
American Indians have a uniqueconnection to the Earth. The Ute Indians, who inhabited the local region, provide a historic example of how early cultures interacted with their surroundings to survive and thrive socially, politically,culturally and economically. The Ute lived close to the land and depended entirely on nature’s bounty for food, clothing, shelter, tools and medicine. The Ute occupied part of Colorado, Utah, New Mexicoand Nevada Ute culture was typical of the western part of the Plains culture area they lived in tepees, which were frequently decorated with colorful paintings. The language of the Utes is Shoshoneanwhich is a branch or a dialect of the Uto-Aztecan language. It is believed that the people who speak Shoshonean separated from other Uto-Aztecan speaking groups about the time of the birth of Christ.Eventually, the Utes became concentrated into a loose confederation of seven bands:
1. The Mouache.
2. The Capote.
3. The Weeminuche
4. The Tabeguache (also called Uncompahgre)
5.The Grand River Utes (also called Parianuche)
6. The Yamparicas (also called White River)
7. The Uintah Utes.
A long time ago, these seven groups of Utes were broken up into small familyunits, It was necessary to do this because food was scarce and it took a large area in the mountains to support a small number of people, They could live in larger numbers under a more powerful...
