Both professions offer potential wealth and, for that reason, many young doctors and lawyers decide to concentrate on patients and clients who can pay fat fees. On the other hand, some of these professionals are also concerned about providing good medical care or legal assistance to people who cannot affordto pay for it. A resolution of this value conflict is reached when a doctor or lawyer establishes a policy about fees. Will everyone be charged a high rate? Will the patient’s or client’s income be taken into account? Will the doctor or lawyer accept people who simply cannot pay at all?
